Calm Tummy Happy Heart Cookbook – Recipes Certified By Monash University
Dear Friends,
I am over the moon to announce that Calm Tummy Happy Heart cookbook has been published!
And here’s the big announcement we’ve been bursting to tell you —
All 80+ recipes with gut-friendly tips have been certified under the Monash University Low FODMAP Certification Program. As a result, it is the first low FODMAP cookbook from the United States with recipes certified by Monash!
For the past couple years, it has been a privilege to work closely with the Monash Team – sending my recipes in batches for assessment and, when needed, further refinement. Basically, I’ve been learning from and collaborating with the very people who developed the food plan that saved my life. I’m walking on clouds today as I think of this.
The recipes are all inspired by the cuisine of my region – the American Southwest. Green chile burgers, taco plates with No Beans Refried “Beans,” ribeye burritos, chilaquiles, white wine margaritas, tamales, chiles rellenos, red chile chocolate cake, homemade tortillas – all robust, delicious recipes to calm IBS symptoms.
All recipes are gluten-free and dairy-free with tips on using lactose-free and conventional dairy ingredients to meet your individual sensitivities. The LoFO diet is not gluten and dairy-free, however, many of us in the IBS community (including me) have these sensitivities. The recipes are also in accordance with the beginning Elimination Phase, making the book a perfect volume for those starting to explore low FODMAP.
Dédé Wilson of FODMAP Everyday is the editor and recipe consultant of the book. She has made numerous television appearances, written many cookbooks and worked as a Contributing Editor for Bon Appetit magazine. I have always thought of her as the Martha Stewart of low FODMAP cooking. It was an absolute pleasure working with her, and Robin Jaffin of FODMAP Everyday who is a business genius with a heart of gold.
Something that I truly love about this book is that my husband, Jim, designed the cookbook and layout. We worked together from the start, and collaborated on all of the primary photography. We agreed that because the recipes are assessed to be calming, that the book design should be a calming experience as well. So, we included our photography of the southwest. Arches and Mesa Verde National Park, adobes of Taos, Moab red rock hikes, sunset among the saguaro cacti of southern Arizona, and of course, the Grand Canyon – all moments of beauty and awe that we want to share with you.
It’s important to note that because the recipes are Monash certified, it was not permissible to list brand names of products I used that were not certified. This is why, as we are in the process of building our online shop of southwest foods we know and love, my next post will list low FODMAP flour and cornmeal brands, my most reliable butter alternative go-to, canned green chiles, a favorite tortilla press, and many more products that will help you to stock your LoFO kitchen, achieve the best results when making your own southwest dishes, and hopefully Calm Tummy Happy Heart recipes, too!
If you’ve read my story, you know that it took over thirty years to find this food regimen that saved me. It was through reading the stories of other IBS sufferers that led me to Monash FODMAP. And now I feel that it is my responsibility and calling to get the word out, share my story, write cookbooks and contribute articles and recipes to the IBS and low FODMAP community.
I’m so happy to finally share this news with you.
Wishing you all a calm tummy and happy heart! Buen provecho!
xo Amy
